Our world is changing. I don't mean Planet Earth, even though it does continue to evolve. No, I am focusing on the world of a radio talk program that has evolved over a period of many years into a group of loyal listeners and callers that form a unique family that has gotten together every weekday morning to share thoughts, observations, loss, victories, pain, happiness, nostalgia, and even a little humor.
The meeting place has been in each participants own mind, joined together by radiowaves and, more recently, the mystical internet. There has been no agenda for the meetings. The only real point in getting together has been to share a bit of each other's daily existence by exercising the old-fashioned art of two-way conversation.
Our world is evolving again. The little get-together that talkradio pioneer Ludlow Porch founded in the 1970s has reached a turning point that forces an end to the daily meeting. The loss of the beloved founder, a poor economy, and changes in radio programming philosophies has led to the most difficult business decision I have ever made.
I battled with myself for many months until I finally realized that the best option to keep some form of Ludlow's original idea alive is to move to a weekend-only program format. I believe that we can combine the modern internet with traditional radio to create a new, fun, and entertaining radio product that can spread to more areas due to the flexibility offered to radio affiliates.
The daily FunSeekers Network program will end Friday, March 2, but a new weekend show will be available soon.
